About the Sam Hamill Writers Residency on Panhandle Creek
The Panhandle Creek Press Writer’s Residency offers an annual two-week residency in the mountains of northern Colorado at 8750ft elevation. With southern exposure and panoramic views, the residency offers a quiet place to focus on your work-in-progress while immersed in Rocky Mountain beauty. Just steps away from the Roosevelt National Forest, writers can find peace and inspiration hiking or canoeing. After a productive day, writers can enjoy relaxation on the private deck by the fire, listening to the gentle murmur of the creek as the local wildlife meanders by, or simply gaze at grandeur of the Milky Way while soaking in the hot tub.

Facility

With a private entrance and deck, the Panhandle Creek Press Residency provides the solitude needed to focus on your work-in-progress. Special care has been taken to insulate the residence from sound, because we understand the need
for an environment without distractions. Within the private residency, you’ll find a dinette with basic necessities, and a great room with stone gas fireplace, dining, living, and work area. The bedroom includes a queen-sized bed, ample closet space, and a private 3/4 bath. Large windows provide a view of the valley and creek, with the mountains and national park in the distance. Outside, you’ll enjoy the private deck, including a covered picnic area with gas barbecue, and a large uncovered deck with gas fire pit and hot tub.
Though your living quarters may feel secluded, you are not isolated. You will begin each day with a breakfast of your choice. We provide a menu from which to choose and are happy to accommodate special dietary needs. Our Writer-in-Residence is welcome to access the work-out room, library, laundry facilities, or primary kitchen and living area.
