Meet Our Editors

Amethyst Macelli (they/them), is a Michigan-based editor with over five years of experience, including working as a freelance editor for two years. Their work has involved collaborating with students and writers on a variety of projects, including academic research, informational guides, news articles, as well as creative works such as novels, short stories, and poetry. While they’ve worked with various types of writing, they’re drawn most to stories featuring queer and POC characters and narratives, striving to

address issues surrounding mental health that are often overlooked in storytelling. They have a preference for fiction, where they focus on developing cohesive and engaging narratives that resonate with readers, although they are happy to help with any writing aimed at promoting inclusivity and diverse perspectives.

Misti Jorges (she/her) has an MA in English, is a recent graduate of the Denver Publishing Institute, and has been editing manuscripts for over a year. In her spare time she loves reading (mostly) fantasy, sewing, and playing video games.

Carmel Mawle (she/her) is a writer, artist, and photographer based in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. She is a graduate of the Denver Publishing Institute, and serves as Managing Editor of Panhandle Creek Press, Ardea Herodias Books, and North Fork Publishing.

In 2011, Carmel founded Writing for Peace, a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to a more peaceful world through creative writing. She served as Editor-in-Chief of DoveTales, An International Journal of the Arts from 2012-2022.

Her poetry and prose have been published in literary journals and anthologies, including VOX Populi, Cutthroat, A Journal of the Arts, Smokelong Quarterly, KNOTS Literary Magazine, Literary Mama, Lucid Moose Lit, HerWords, and others. Carmel’s short story, “Heading South,” earned Honorable Mention in the 2022 Rick DeMarinis Short Story Prize.

Micaela Myers (she/her) began writing poems before she could write herself, appearing at her mother’s bedside, chanting, “I’ve got a poem, I’ve got a poem!” After earning her bachelor’s degree in English, she went on to pursue an MFA in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. After graduation, she garnered publications in many literary journals, including the Mississippi Review online, Boston Literary Magazine, Short Story, Paper Street, and Spire.

A simultaneous submission accepted to City Works San Diego taught Micaela a hard lesson when famed writer Amy Tan later wanted to publish it in the L.A. Times magazine fiction section. Micaela’s stories also took first place in the River Oak Review’s fiction contest and Binnacle’s Ultra-Short Competition.

In her day job, Micaela is an award-winning magazine editor and the author of three equestrian books.

Her first book for Panhandle Creek Press, due for release Christmas 2026, will tell the story of Superhero Kids from around the world who are using their creativity and passion to make a positive impact.

Tara Severance embodies the spirit of the Renaissance woman. She has a degree in Studio Art, Biology minor, from the College of Wooster, and studied abroad in Italy through the University of Georgia: Lamar Dodd School of Art. Her artwork has been featured in exhibitions ranging from small hometown galleries in Ohio to the Louvre Museum in Paris.

She earned a Certificate in Publishing from the University of Denver Publishing Institute, founded The Ambrosia Literary Agency, and co-founded the non-profit organization, Universal Divinity.

She is creative and imaginative, drawn to the mystical and whimsical, fantastical and supernatural. You will often find her sipping tea and lost in her own musings; reading, painting, gazing at the stars and moon, or dreaming of places where magic exists.

Her favorite genres include: fantasy, supernatural, horror, mythology, religion, and the occult. Her favorite novels are Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and anything she can find about Alchemy. She is also a Potterhead and finds Edward Gorey’s macabre illustrations delightful.

She looks forward to contributing her knowledge and love for arts and books with the team at Panhandle Creek Press to help writers and illustrators on their journey to publication.

Makayla Wigder (she/her) recently graduated with her Masters from the world’s-only English Fantasy Literature program at the University of Glasgow. Though she reads practically anything she can get her hands on, Makayla’s favorite genres are fantasy (of course), romance, and romantasy because she loves the intrinsic hope and potential for positive representation within all three genres. When she is not editing, you can find her fighting for control of her laptop with her puppy Posie (who knows editing time means it’s not playtime), working on jigsaw puzzles, or with her nose in yet another book.
