When Sammie Vance was eight years old, she noticed kids sitting alone at recess, and she decided to do something about it. She started collecting plastic bottle caps to build a Buddy Bench, a place where any child could sit to let others know they were looking for a friend. Nine years and more than 750 benches later, Sammie’s project has recycled millions of caps and reached schools across the country.
Inspire the World: A Kid’s Journey to Making a Difference tells that story in Sammie’s own words, with playful doodles by Talitha Shipman. It’s a book for every child who has ever wondered whether one person, even a young one, can really change things. (Spoiler: they can.)
Today the new edition is available in hardcover and paperback. Congratulations, Sammie. We’re so proud to publish your book!
