Stewart Bellus grew up in Brooklyn NY during the 1950’s and ‘60’s. Like many boys of that era, he spent much of his time playing, watching and talking about sports, but during college his horizons expanded. He studied history, worked as a student teacher, traveled more extensively, and took up a new pastime: writing fiction.
His first law job was arguing criminal appeals, and he later transitioned to intellectual property, but through all his years of legal practice, he always found time to write, winning a fiction writing contest sponsored by the DC Bar Association, then publishing short stories in several literary magazines (Confrontation, RavensPerch, Mediphors, Wood Cat Review, Dumbo Press, SportsScribe, WayWords) and two anthologies.
His first novel, Tip Of The Tongue, a contemporary tale of respectable people acting in disreputable ways, was published as an e-book. His second work of long fiction, The Villa, was an historical novel set in WW II Italy and beyond. Moments of Truth was Stewart’s first collection of short stories. His most recent short story, “My Friend George,” was longlisted in the “History Through Fiction” short story contest and published as an independent work of fiction. A novella, What We Do When No One Is Watching, is scheduled for publication in late 2026.
Look for Stewart’s Middle Grade/Young Adult novel, The Blue Pearl, to be released by Ardea Herodias Books in spring of 2027.
