About the author: Micaela Myers began volunteering at a therapeutic riding facility when she was in junior high, kicking off a lifelong love for service that inspired her to write Superhero Kids. After earning her bachelor’s degree in literature and writing from California State University San Marcos, she went on to earn her MFA in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. An award-winning magazine editor, Micaela has published numerous articles, short stories, and three equestrian books. She is currently working on a memoir and a novel.
About the illustrator: Leslie Lumeh was born in Damballa, Grand Cape Mount County, western Liberia, and taught himself to paint. His watercolors of daily life during Liberia’s civil war brought him attention around the world — and, for a time, exile. He returned to open Liberia’s first art gallery and to found LivArts, an academy that gives free art lessons to Liberian children. CNN has called him “Liberia’s most celebrated artist.” He now lives and paints in France. His portraits of the young people in this book were drawn from their own photographs.
